Dear Performers,

ACTRA Toronto Council elections are underway, and RCAP is in its expansion era, ready to move ONWARDS.

We’ve gone from 8 (in 2023) to 20 RCAP candidates — a formidable, united, and dynamic group of working members.

This is a team of both proven incumbents and bold new voices, prepared to steer with unwavering union principles and decisive, labour-focused action. This team reflects the full breadth of our union — both in category and agreement history.

We need a strong voter turnout to endorse not only the full RCAP slate, but the shared vision we’re building together — the union you want to see.

A resounding YES to what we’ve built together, and an even louder YES to forging ahead, bent on building a powerful creative working class. Let’s Ride!

This work continues to both humble and excite us. We don’t take the opportunity to serve lightly.

Let’s work,
Your 2025 RCAP slate

RCAP ELECTION BASECAMP

  • A Union slate refers to a group of candidates running for leadership on a shared platform during an election. Once elected, slates have the agility to debate ideas and move as a unified team to collectively pursue their objectives.

  • Simply - more power at the table. As a rank-and-file focused caucus we take our cues from members. Running a slate of candidates allows us to overcome antiquated obstacles, present a cohesive vision during the election and take action efficiently once elected. Running a slate allows for a dynamic, representative team aligned on the big stuff and ready to work.

The Pitch

The ONWARDS Platform is about ACCESS and OPPORTUNITY as it relates to our union and our work.

Members want their union to be accessible, democratically sound, and transparent. They want it to be a stable source of work opportunities.

This is why we must resolve the commercial dispute, organize more work into the union and fight to defend our place on set and in the booth.

We are committed to building power not just at the bargaining table, but in community with one another. Through open and constructive dialogue across every category and throughout our jurisdiction.

With 15,000 members, ACTRA Toronto has the potential to be a great source of power in the creative labour movement.

We chose ONWARDS because there is more to do. More for ACTRA Toronto to become. Now is a point in time; onwards is everything thereafter.

Access. Opportunity. Action.

More ACCESS

ACTRA belongs to its members. Democracy and transparency are the foundations needed to restore the Union to its members. By restoring democratic governance and the "collective" to collective bargaining, we also restore our power vis-à-vis the employers.

  • Good governance

  • Greater financial transparency

  • Progressive bargaining reform

  • Member informed decision making

More OPPORTUNITY

Members want to work, first and foremost. Everything else follows. Wherever we work, we can advocate for better terms and conditions, better pay and greater protections on set. More Canadians on set. Wherever there is work, there is the opportunity to advocate for more inclusion. Wherever there is work, there is the ability to assert our power. We are aiming toward:

  • Resolving the NCA lockout

  • Organizing non-members and more sets to go ACTRA

  • Advancing greater equity and inclusion across categories and communities.

  • Reforming member accessible agreements for performer-creators

  • Exploring permit and preference of engagement policies.

More ACTION

“Successful pro-democracy union reform efforts are essentially campaigns for workplace changes that the members need.” - Democracy is Power by Mike Parker & Martha Gruelle.

We aren’t just looking to reform ACTRA Toronto for the sake of it. Everything we do is about holding our employers to account and improving our circumstances.

Sustainable action demands more from leaders: competence, inclusivity, strategy, fiduciary duty, and creativity, with both the agility to react (think tariffs, Tilly) and persistence to build lasting campaigns (Provincial diving regulation changes).

So how do we do it?

  • Collaboration over control.

  • Listening, not dictating.

  • Informed decision making.

Our power lies in a unified collective prepared to stand together. Let’s reform, rebuild, reimagine and move ONWARDS.

Vote RCAP. Vote for Access, Opportunity, and Action.
